This is one of the most asked questions by an undergraduate student specifically, as they are the new members of the university level of education. Many students who don't have good marks or have an average academic performance result in getting internships at the best institute in India as well as in other foreign universities. But HOW????
First of all, you must accumulate knowledge in the field you are interested in. At early stages, you must go for different areas to get exposure in different fields which help you to choose the best one for you among them. Academic performance matters but if you have other activities in the background, then that will help you to keep much more ahead than others in the line.
You must have some experience in any extracurricular activity as music, arts, dance, photography or any other which may be your hobby also. This will act as an add-on pack in your resume.
You must start asking professors for the internship at least 2 months before the starting time. This will increase your chance to get an internship with your favourite professor, without an excellent academic performance.
You can start a conversation with the instructor through the mail firstly, for getting an appointment from them. If you know the professor very well or he is taking any course of yours then you can approach him directly also but with some precautions!
Never contact professors for these things on their personal cell numbers like on Whatsapp or calling them directly. This will leave a bad impression of yours. This is not a professional way of communication. You must establish a communication under a formal decorum firstly. With the time professor will become a friend of you if you worked good.
In the mail, you must write about your interest in the field you are applying for and what knowledge you have about the same.
